Version numbers and download

Hi,

Newbie here.. any help appreciated.

I'm having a problem working out exactly what version of SS i have.

I checked in the screen-scraper.properties and it says 3.0

But there are many updates available (3.48 is the latest.. am I right? )

So

1) How do I tell which version I really have and
2) How do I download an update if I need it

Many thanks in advance

SS is a GREAT product :)

Thanks

Just for everyone's reference... in the rabbit.conf file...

remove=Connection,Proxy-Connection, Keep-Alive, Public, Transfer-Encoding, Upgrade,Proxy-Authorization, TE, Proxy-Authenticate, Trailer, Accept-Encoding

I Added "Accept-Encoding"

This did the trick !

Monki,

5 stars to you! I'll add the RabbIT proxy as an alternate way to proxy those most-pesky sites.

Fixed this with RabbIT proxy server

This might remove the need to "collect" pages using SS's Proxy Server :)

let's see.

Monki,

I guess you'll have to give it a try and let us know. I've never tried that, myself.

Gotcha.. I was thinking of a 3rd party proxy that passes data to SS from the web.. if this makes sense.. would that work?

Monki,

Actually, the purpose of the proxy server is simply to collect the HTTP header information and organize it in a way that makes creating scrapeable files easier. In your case, creating scrapeable files from the results of the proxy session will not actually solve the issue and there is no way to run a scraping session via the proxy as their intended purposes do not conjoin.

Please see my pm regarding using the professional edition.

OK Thanks

PM me with a price.. in the meantime I guess using a proxy server might get around the issue?

Monki,

This issue was fixed in 3.0.2a. Unfortunately, we don't offer upgrading to unstable/alpha releases with the basic edition. The best I can offer you is a discount on the purchase of the professional edition.

If you're interested please private message me.

Thank you,
Scott

Eon,

Could you describe with more detail what the issue is that you're having. The post you cite seems to indicates the solution came in upgrading. You should be at least to 3.0.

More detail would help.

Thanks for the info.

I was having trouble with junk being returned from a url.. I found a solution here

http://www.screen-scraper.com/forum/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=922

but was not sure which version I have. So the real issue here is "junk" being returned from a url (well gzip'ed .. I think)

Here is the header line that I think is causing the problem...

Content-Encoding: deflate

Any help appreciated.

Monki,

You've found the correct place to identify what version you have. The screen-scraper.properties file found in the /resource/conf folder. In order to do an upgrade you'll first need to be using the professional edition. Then, open up the workbench and go under Options > Settings and check the box next to "Allow upgrading to unstable versions". Next, go again under Options and choose "Check for updates".

As you've already determined, there are updates available. These updates are considered Alpha which simply means they are considered still in testing.

As an alternate approach to updating and as a means to downgrade please see this FAQ.

Please let us know if you have any further questions.

Thanks,
Scott
