Extending Hello World

Overview

This tutorial continues where Tutorial 1: Hello World left off and covers aspects of interacting with screen-scraper from external languages, like Active Server Pages, PHP, ColdFusion and Java.

If you haven't completed the first tutorial don't worry, but you'll at least need to import the scraping session that were created in the first tutorial. To do that, download and import the Hello World scraping session.

Tutorial Requirements

This tutorial can be done using any version of screen-scraper; however, in order to interact with screen-scraper using something other than the command line requires either a Professional or Enterprise edition of screen-scraper. That is not to discourage you from working through the tutorial but just to establish expectations of what you will be able to do.

Also, if you want to run the scrape from an external script then you will need access to a server that runs ASP, PHP, ColdFusion, or Java. It can be a local or remote server, but screen-scraper does not come packaged with one. This is not required to do the tutorial, as you can use the command line, but can make the tutorial more interesting.

Finished Project

If you'd like to see the final version of the scraping session you'll be creating in this tutorial you can download it below.
